The collector bot is one of my earliest projects at Offworld. As one of the crucial OffWorld Swarm Robotics Mining (SRM) species, the collector bot is responsible for picking up rock chips from the Excavator Bot's operations, crushing them into fine dust, and depositing them into an onboard collecting bag.

Despite a relatively short R&D period of just one year, I gained invaluable knowledge and experience from the intense development cycles and fast iterations. Transitioning from grad school academic work, I gained a significant amount of industrial experience through this project alone. This involved creating a design from the ground up based on concept design and requirements, selecting COTS components after carefully evaluating them with trade metrics, and collaborating with suppliers to make designs more manufacturable and cost-effective.

During the lab-testing phase, I honed my skills in conducting unit, subsystem, and system tests under the direct mentorship of OffWorld's CTO and Chief Engineer.

With a lean team of just 6 engineers, we achieved a proof-of-concept system within 6 six months of development time and further enhanced its performance over the subsequent 5 months during field testing.
